The best cross country rally drivers of the world are ready to take the victory of the fifth round of the FIA World Cup
The Baja Spain Aragón 2016, fifth round of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies, takes place this weekend from 21 to 24 July around Teurel in South East Spain. The race has come to its 33rd edition and is announced to be one of the most intense ever, as many top-drivers are in the entry list, which counts almost 70 car crews.
The most awaited pilot is home hero and Dakar winner Nani Roma, accompanied by co-driver Alex Haro. The Spaniard, who holds the title of Baja Aragón, has just signed a contract with Overdrive Racing and will drive an official Toyota Hilux with DakarCorse wheels. His teammate Nasser Al-Attiyah, navigated by Mathieu Baumel, is one the of the favourites too. The Qatari won the last three rounds of the World Cup for Cross Country Rallies and is steadily at the top of the general standings. Their main opponents will be Peugeot 2008 driver Carlos Sainz as well as Mikko Hirvonen and Orlando Terranova on Mini All4Racing.
As every year, the route of the Baja Aragón is secret both to pilots and fan until the day before the test, being revealed only during the technical and administrative verifications. What is sure is that a 17 km prologue will be held in Teurel on Friday evening and will determine the start order of the race. On Saturday and Sunday all partecipants will race the two legs in the province of Teruel, within the counties of Jiloca and Comunidad de Teruel, for a total of 800 kilometers.
The Baja Aragón is the longest European Cross Country Rally and has been recently rated by the FIA as the best round of the World Cup for Cross Country Rallies.
