The Portoguese off-road events has come to its 30th edition and features almost 60 cars.
The edition 2016 of the Baja Portalegre 500 promises strong emotions. From 27 to 29 October one of the most important and ancient cross country off-road events will take place around the town of Portalegre gathering thousands of 4×4 and all-terrain enthusiasts from Portugal and from all over Europe.
The 30th edition of the Baja Portalegre 500 is the last seasonal round of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies and – despite the absence of the World Champion Nasser Al-Attiyah – features important international drivers. First of all home hero Ricardo Porém who, after winning the last two editions, has decided to rely on the Mini All4 Racing to score the hat-trick. To contrast the Portuguese, Overdrive Racing lines-up two Toyota Hiluxes: one driven by Brazilian veteran Reinaldo Varela and the other one by young Pole Aron Domżała. Good chances are also for expert Russians Boris Gadasin and Andrey Novikov on the two G-Force Protos by Suprotec Racing team.
The event starts on Thursday with the administrative and technical checks; in the evening, for the first time in over 15 years, the Baja Portalegre 500 returns to the city center for the opening ceremony, which is scheduled at 19.
On Friday the actual competition begins in the morning, with the prologue in Coutadas. Two special stages are to be run for a total 80 km that might cause important gaps in the standings. On Saturday, competitors have two long stages ahead, which cover more than 400 km. The first one begins at 8:00 am, in Alter do Chão, the second is scheduled for 13.30 in Crato village. As always, many thousands of supporters are expected to be present over the 500 kilometers of track. The 30th edition of the Baja Portalegre 500 has all the making of an unforgettable race.
